Oaklavore strives to showcase what Oakland’s food scene is up to at the moment. This is a partial snapshot of the Downtown Oakland restaurant and bar scene as of May/June/July 2011. There will be follow ups to this post, but in the meantime- get out there and eat in Oakland!
From Nex and Mua all the way around Sidebar, Kwik Way, Disco Volante, Plum, Lake Chalet, Trappist and on to Bocanova and House of Chicken and Waffles at Jack London – Oakland has got some FOOD! Hawker Fare and 1015 Clay are the latest to join the fray, along with Porky’s Porchetta Sandwich cart out in front of Plum…
Here is where team Oaklvore’s been chowin’ down most recently:
Disco Volante: Sneakily styled out on a corner of downtown, the cocktails will rock you! Grab some small plates or a full dinner and watch the live music they have occasionally – check the calendar here.
Dogwood: Cocktails and Salumi, who could ask for more??
Bar 355: For your drankin pleasure, Bar 355 serves up some gorgeous cocktails in an elegant atmosphere. Young hip-ish crowd and industry folks after resto-close dance and drink their cares away up on the stage til the last call for alcohol.
The Layover: This bar has a fun St. Marks Place feel in the couchy window seats, great creative cocktails and can get lively on the weekend nights after work. The draw includes DJs and an art gallery to boot!
Please let us know of any of your faves not mentioned here so we can all go out and try ’em!
All Love/Love All,
